World famous Filipino theatre show to perform free shows in Joburg

After successful performances in 15 countries over the past 17 years, one of the Philippine's longest running theatre shows is finally making its way to the South African stage. Siddhartha the Musical is set to perform at the Joburg Theatre on the 11th and 12th of May. The already fully booked show will be free to the public.

International musical set to wow Joburg audiences

The Joburg Theatre says, it is proud and thrilled to finally welcome the cast and crew of "Siddhartha the Musical" to South Africa. The group from the Phillippines will be performing their world renowned production for the first time in Africa. The play tells the story of Prince Siddhartha who was born into a wealthy family however went on a soul searching journey to seek a more simple life, filled with wisdom, compassion and enlightenment.

The musical is based on the book "The Biography of the Gautama Buddha" by Hsing Yun. The play tells the story of Prince Siddhartha - born 2,600 years ago in ancient India - who renounced his royal status and luxurious life to seek enlightenment. Costume consultant for the Musical, OJ Hofer says the musical encompasses the stories and life lessons of the Buddha in one's path to peace and enlightenment..

In the spirit of reconciliation, churches in the Phoenix area have joined together to help a woman who was attacked and her car torched, allegedly by the vigilante groups in the area during the unrest. Church members put together money to buy the woman a new car. This gesture they hope will be a step towards healing and forgiveness in the community.
