Our Story

Youth Express was born out of a simple but powerful truth: South Africa’s young people are full of talent, ideas and resilience, yet too many are trying to build a future in the middle of a crisis. South Africa’s youth unemployment rate sits at 60.9% for individuals aged 15–24, with the broader 15–34 demographic experiencing an average rate of 45.6%. The journey into work, stability and opportunity remains painfully difficult. Young women, in particular, continue to face added barriers in entering the job market.

At the same time, many young people are growing up in a digital world full of content, but not always full of wisdom. Youth spend hours every day on social media, where information, entertainment and influence now shape how they think, learn and make decisions. Youth Express was created to meet them there with content that is practical, trustworthy and empowering.

We also recognised that many young people are facing deeper challenges that cannot be ignored: financial pressure, addiction, mental health struggles, and the uncertainty of trying to find work or start a side hustle with very little guidance. Youth Express exists to help young people move from confusion to clarity, and from potential to progress.

Another important part of our story is language. South Africa is rich in languages, cultures and identity, yet too much useful content still reaches people only in English. Youth Express is committed to creating multilingual content, including sign language, so that more young people can access information in a way that is familiar, inclusive and empowering.

Our Mission

Our mission is to equip young South Africans with practical tools for life, work and business. Through engaging, accessible and inspiring content, we aim to help young people make informed decisions, grow in confidence, build meaningful skills and unlock opportunities that may once have felt out of reach.

We want to help young people find their footing in a world that can feel overwhelming. Whether they are looking for work, starting a side hustle, learning how to manage their finances, or trying to make healthier choices, Youth Express is here to offer support that is relevant, practical and encouraging.

We also want to bridge the generational gap in a way that feels human, honest and even fun. Too many young people are expected to “just know” things that were never properly taught to them, while too much wisdom remains locked away in spaces they may never access. Youth Express creates room for those conversations, helping Gen Z access practical guidance, mentorship and relatable content that speaks their language.

Our Tools

Youth Express creates content on the platforms young people already use and trust. We deliver short-form videos, interviews, podcasts, webinars, youth conversations and storytelling formats that are designed to inform, inspire and equip.

Our website is: www.youthexpress.co.za
